Black Umfolosi International (BUI) is a Canadian Imbube group known for traditional harmonious songs and Southern African dances. Originally formed in Zimbabwe in 1982 and reformed in 2023, they have gained global recognition, performing in over 30 countries. Singing in Ndebele and Zulu, their music includes unique sounds like clicks and tongue rolls. Their dances represent Southern African culture, showcasing strength, pride, and gratitude with exuberance and precision.

Thomeki Dube, also known as "Nduna," a term signifying "boss" in Zulu, assumes multiple roles within our organization. He serves as our artistic director, administrator, songwriter, composer, performer, trainer, Gumboot dance consultant, and tour manager. Thomeki notably co-produced the musical production "Black Burlesque Revisited" in conjunction with Reggie Wilson First and Heal (USA) and the Noble Douglas Dance Company from Trinidad and Tobago.

Brian is a versatile artist with a wide vocal range spanning from Soprano to Bass, coupled with proficiency as a percussionist, dancer, composer, and choreographer. Known for his meticulous attention to detail, he also conducts workshops, plays the guitar, and currently holds the position of Production Manager at BUI.

Sindisiwe Majola, the Chief Fundraiser and Costume Manager at BUI, plays a pivotal role as the melodious voice, adding the rich and calming sounds of Alto and Tenor. Her contributions extend beyond her vocal talents, as she meticulously crafts and manages the intricate costumes that bring the performances to life. Sindisiwe's eye for detail ensures each garment not only complements the thematic essence of the production but also allows the performers to move gracefully on stage.

Sikhumbuzo, known by the nickname "Mmantswane," derived from the Zulu term for honey badger, is a versatile artist proficient in songwriting, singing, dancing, and poetry. He demonstrates a remarkable vocal range encompassing alto, tenor, and bass while collaborating with BUI.

Sandi assumes the role of Secretary General at BUI, embodying a voice characterized by its richness, warmth, and velvety quality. Her seamless navigation between Alto and Soprano ranges showcases her adeptness, effortlessly blending her tranquil and composed demeanor.

Teddy embodies a multifaceted role as a performer, encompassing skills as a drummer, singer, and choreographer. With a background in various ensembles, he has honed his expertise in traditional Southern African cultural performances, modern dances, and songs intertwined with poetry. Notably, Teddy possesses a rich vocal range, characterized by deep and evocative bass tones.
